Yummy Pub Food

I have to say I am so far really impressed with the next cookbook.  It’s called Great Pub Food: Make Home Your New Local.  Everything I have tried from the book, including the Beef and Guinness Pies I made last time I used this book, have been great!  Perhaps it would make a great Christmas gift for someone on your list?

This time I had tagged the recipe for Pork and Fennel Sausage Rolls.  To make them I heated oil in a large skillet over medium low heat.  Then I added chopped onion, garlic and fennel seeds.

Once the onion was softened I added chopped celery and carrot.

That cooked for about ten minutes and then I emptied the contents of the skillet into a large bowl and let it cool.  Meanwhile I rolled out puff pastry and divided each sheet into 4 rectangles, which I set aside on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

I then preheated my oven to 400 degrees F.   By this point the sauted veggies in the bowl were cool so I added ground pork, diced apple and salt and pepper.  I combined the meat with fruit and veggies.

Then I formed “sausage like” shapes and wrapped each in a piece of puff pastry.  I brushed the outside of the puff pastry with a lightly beaten egg.  Then I sprinkled fennel and sesame seeds on top.

The baking sheet went into the for about 25 minutes.  They came out of the oven nicely browned.

The Verdict:  These were GREAT!  Very tasty, awesome flavor!!  These would make a great thing to bring to a party, your friends would def. be impressed.  Also these make a great breakfast too.  Make them!  Get the recipe here.
