Dinner and Survivor!

done!

My mother-in-law Elaine, who also goes by “Lasagna,” is a huge fan of the show Survivor.  Elaine also currently has a foreign exchanged student from Germany living with her, Maike.  I thought it would be fun to have Elaine and Maike over for a dinner/Survivor night.  I reached for the next cookbook, Rocco’s Real Life Recipes, by Rocco Dispirito for the dinner part of the evening.

The last time I used this cookbook I made Beef and Snow Pea Stir Fry (you can read about it here).  This time I had tagged the recipe for Beef with Broccoli and Garlic Sauce (so basically another stir-fry).

To start off with I took sirloin and sliced it thin.  Then I tossed it in flour and seasoned with salt and pepper.

I heated a pan with oil over high heat, added the meat, and cooked until it started to brown, about 2-3 minutes.  I removed the meat from the pan then added garlic (a lot)….

along with broccoli and chile-garlic sauce.  I cooked for a minute.

Then chicken broth and hoisin sauce got added to the pan.  That was brought to a simmer and the beef got added back to the pan.  That all cooked for a few minutes until the sauce thickened slightly.

I served with white rice.

The Verdict:  I wasn’t blown away…similar to the previous recipe I made from this book.  But it wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t anything spectacular.  For that reason I did not put the recipe up, but if anyone wants it feel free to ask me!

Also if  you noticed my chef knife from the garlic photo it’s German knife (Maike was excited to see German things in my kitchen).  I LOVE my Wusthof knives and pretty much use my chef’s knife exclusively.  If you need a good knife I highly recommend picking one up!

As far as Survivor went I think they should have voted off Spencer rather than Shirin!
