Tom Colicchio is one of my favorite chefs. He is head judge on one of my favorite shows Top Chef, a new season is suppose to start this fall – YAY! I own 2 Tom Colicchio cookbooks, you can read about my first post using a Tom Colicchio cookbook here. This cookbook is a sandwich cookbook called “Wichcraft” by Tom Colicchio with Sasha Ortuzar. Tom has a few sandwich shops in New York also called Wichcraft btw.
The recipe tagged is Smoked Ham with Avocado and Butter. The recipe is super simple. Take a baguette (or part of a baguette), slice it in half and spread softened butter on the bottom half. Take an avocado, peel and slice it thin, then drizzle it with olive oil and salt and pepper. Place the avocado on top of the buttered baguette half then top with smoked ham. Close the sandwich and eat it.
The verdict: Sorry Tom but I’m kind of not into this. It has two of my favorite things (avocado and prosciutto), but I found the butter unnecessary. I make a VERY similar sandwich quite often which I like a lot better. I take a slice of rye bread and toast it. Then I smash avocado onto the toast, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Put on a few snipped chives and top with prosciutto. Try out my version (or Tom’s) and let me know which one you prefer!
