Pickled Fruit? And links for Andy…

Matt’s birthday continued with some pickled fruit. I am a huge David Chang fan. I first got “acquainted” with him on the first season of Mind of a Chef.

[/span4][span8] I really love his passion but also love that a lot of his filmings take place when he is hungover from the night before…I can relate Dave! David Chang wrote a cookbook with Peter Meehan (who can also been seen in the first season of Mind of a Chef) called “Momofuku.”

[/span4][span8] David Chang loves pickles so I decided to try out some of his pickled fruits. I decided to go with apples and watermelon. The brine is pretty simple, combine 1 cup of hot water from the tap, 1/2 cup of rice vinegar, 6 TB of sugar, 2 1/2 tsp of salt and then the fruit/vegetable you are pickling. I made a batch of brine and then chopped up 3 firm apples.

Verdict:  So this was probably the only miss of the food made on Matt’s birthday…sorry David Chang.  It was just kind of weird and only the bees seemed to enjoy it.  But I did like how easy the brine was to make so I might try pickling more traditional things to pickle in it!

The rest of this post is for Andy.  During the party there were several products that came up for which Andy wanted info on where he can get the products.  Andy requested that I blog about it so he only had to go one place on the line.

First – Sunglasses.  AJ Morgan sells really stylish sunglasses with great lenses.  I own two pairs…Also they sell reading glasses so Andy if you ever want to replace that monocle you might find a good replacement on the AJ Morgan site.

Second – Sun protection for hair.  Fekkai Soleil Hair Radiance and Protection Mist.  I spray in on my hair on the weekends (when I know I will be out in the sun all day) when it’s damp right after being washed.  It helps shield hair from overexposure to sun which causes fading and dehydration.  It’s infused with sunflower seed oil.  You can order it on Amazon here.

Third – Bug Lotion.  Faerhaven Summertime Lotion.  It looks like deodorant but it isn’t!  It’s a bug repellant lotion that smells great and it makes your skin feel great too!  It contains catmint, lemongrass, eucalyptus, cedarwood and peppermint. It can be bought at Shop Eco in Windsor.
